MARTIN, Tenn. – Playing three-time defending Ohio Valley Conference Champion UT Martin, the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team fell 100-71 Monday evening in Martin, Tenn.

The Redhawks did not have an answer for Jasmine Newsome and Heather Bulter, UT Martin's tandem that has each scored over 2,000 career points. Butler scored a game-high 23 points while Newsome dropped in 16.

The Redhawks looked good early, grabbing the opening tip and scoring the first point of the game on a Connor King free throw. After Ashia Jones answered with a jumper, Jordan Hunter scored on a coast-to-coast layup.

Heather Butler then hit a free throw of her own to knot the game up at three-all. That is when Newsome got cooking, knocking in three of her 16 first half points to give the Skyhawks a lead they would not relinquish.

Southeast would keep it close until the midway point of the first half when a 13-0 UT Martin run inflated a 25-19 lead to a 40-19 advantage in just four minutes.

Brianna Mitchell ended the run with a layup with 4:22 remaining in the first half as part of her career-high 20 points.

Behind the lead, the Skyhawks kept cruising posting 50 second half points enroute to the 100-71 victory.

Senior Patricia Mack grabbed 11 rebounds, moving from eighth to sixth all time with 725 rebounds in her career at Southeast. She passed Vera Roberts who played from 1986-90 and Sandy Heitschmidt who played from 1983-87. She is now just one rebound shy of cracking the top-five, which is currently held by Lachelle Lyles who played from 2005-07.

After Mitchell's 20 points, Hunter scored 16 points as the other Redhawk in double figures.

Butler scored 23 points to lead UT Martin while Newsome had 16, Jones scored 15 and Tiara Caldwell scored 12 points.

The Redhawks now have a week's rest before taking on Morehead on Monday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. in Morehead, Ky.
