CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – Behind five players in double-digits and a career-high 18 rebounds from Patricia Mack, the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak in a 72-50 victory over Southern Illinois.

The Redhawks, who spent their previous four games on the road, improve to 3-6 while the Salukis fall to 1-6.

"I was really proud of the effort we displayed," Southeast head coach Ty Margenthaler said. "I think tonight was really the first night we played a complete 40-minute game.

"I was really pleased with the energy level. I thought we were really focused from the tip and finished it out really strong."

Southeast never trailed in the contest as Connor King made a steal after SIU won the opening tip. Olivia Hackmann found Kara Wright for the first of five assists as Wright gave Southeast the early lead.

Mercedes Griffin answered with a layup for one-of-two ties in the game. However, Southeast would jump out to an 18-8 advantage with 13:01 remaining as Allyson Bradshaw hit her first 3-point basket in five games after dealing with an injury.

Southern Illinois would roll into a 12-2 run to knot the game at 20-20 at the 6:32 mark in the first half. However, the Redhawks found their groove and went on a 15-2 run to end the first half with a 35-22 lead.

Brittany Harris, who logged a season-high 19 minutes, began the run with a layup then made a steal on the defensive end setting up Bradshaw for a layup on the fast break.

Hackmann hit a jumper with time running out in the first half to seal the 13-point halftime advantage.

The second half played out much like the final six minute of the first half with the Redhawks building a lead of as much as 25 points, which happened with 7:47 remaining in the game.

Hackmann led southeast with 14 points, while Mack completed the double-double with 13 points and the 18 rebounds. Kara Wright dropped in 13 points while Bradshaw and Jordan Hunter added 10 apiece.

"It was great for Allyson to come off and hit a couple of three's," Margenthaler said. "She is our 3-point shooter and that will give her confidence.

"That has been one thing Olivia has been working on (the 3-point basket), and we need this, she shot the ball really well. She is a great mid-range player. She really got into a zone and hit some threes."

Azia Washington scored 14 points to lead the Salukis while Dyana Pierre chipped in 12 points.

Southeast did not allow a made 3-point basket from SIU while holding the Salukis to 31.1 percent from the field and outrebounded the opponent 53-33. Behind Mack's 18 boards, Brittany Harris secured nine including seven on the offensive end.

"It's always nice for a coaching staff to see five players in double digits," Margenthaler said. "The one category that I love, and you'll have a good opportunity to win a lot of games, is when you outrebound your opponent by the number that we did.

"I thought we did a great job on the boards."

Southeast's stay at home was brief as the Redhawks travel to Western Illinois Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. tip-off in Macomb, Ill.
