MARTIN, Tenn. – The Southeast Missouri soccer team (8-6-3, 6-2-2 OVC) dropped the regular season finale to UT Martin (10-8-1, 8-2 OVC) Friday evening, 1-0 in double overtime. With the win, UT Martin clinched the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Championship and the right to host the 2013 OVC Tournament.
In the first half, UT Martin heavily out-shot the Redhawks, 17-3, but Ashton Aubuchon tallied five saves in the scoreless first half. Storm French got Southeast's only shot-on-goal in the first half as Jenna Collingridge and Jennifer Antonacci each added a shot of their own. Aoife Lennon led the Skyhawks with four shots, two on-goal in the first half.
90 minutes of regulation would not be enough to determine the 2013 OVC regular season champions as the game remained scoreless through two halves. UT Martin added 18 shots to their shot total in the second half, totaling 35 in all to the Redhawks' six overall. Aubuchon added seven more saves in the second half for a total of 12 in regulation.
As if 90 minutes wasn't enough, 100 minutes didn't do the trick either. The Skyhawks tallied three more shots, 38 overall, in the first overtime period.
Only 1:09 into the second overtime, Abi Sanvee threaded the game-winner into the Redhawk goal to clinch the 2013 OVC Championship for the Skyhawks.
French added one more shot-on-goal to lead the Redhawk's offense against the Skyhawks.
Lennon tallied a total of nine shots in the match, three of which were on goal. Sanvee had five including the game winner. Alyssa Curtis posted the most shots-on-goal with four in the match.
Besides Aubuchon, Christina Rohde was the only Redhawk who played all 110 minutes of the match.
The 2013 OVC Tournament will begin Thursday, Nov. 7 on the campus of UT Martin.
