CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Two Southeast Missouri gymnasts posted top-three finishes, but Michigan State's depth proved too much in a 193.450-188.350 dual setback in Jenison Field House on Saturday night.
The Redhawks (0-3) added two points to their shorthanded score from two weeks ago, but remain winless for the season.
Southeast began the evening on uneven bars, where it got strong performances from Megan Fosnow and Angela Serafini. The gymnasts each scored 9.700 to tie for third among all competitors. The Redhawks scored 47.875 as a team while the Spartans recorded a 48.700 on vault.
Fosnow continued her strong season on vault in the next rotation, posting a 9.725 to finish in a fourth-place tie. Southeast tallied 47.250 on the event as a team while MSU extended its lead with a 48.075 on bars.
Emma Garrett once again paced Southeast on the floor with a 9.700, her third-straight meet scoring 9.700 or above. She was the only Redhawk to score over 9.500 as the team posted a 46.725 while the Spartans tallied a 48.000 on beam.
Southeast closed the meet on beam where it struggled to a 46.500 as only Taylor Westrick (9.675) scored higher than 9.500. MSU finished up with a 48.675 on floor to finish it up.
Fosnow competed in the all-around for the first time in her career and won the competition with a 37.250.
“I am really proud of how Megan competed tonight,” Southeast head coach Kristi Ewasko said. “She did a nice job for her first time in the all-around. We look for her to only improve as she gets more experience.”
The Redhawks are back in action on Feb. 10 when they face Oklahoma and Iowa State in the Perfect 10 Challenge in Oklahoma City, Okla.
