News and Notes:

Beaming Up – Southeast put together its top two balance beam scores of the season last week. The Redhawks tallied a 47.450 against UIC on Saturday before posting a 48.025 at Iowa State on Monday. Taylor Westrick was the catalyst of the improvement, scoring above 9.800 in both duals. The junior tied her career-best with a 9.875 against the Flames, claiming the individual title. Against the Cyclones, Westrick finished second on the apparatus with a 9.825.

Bring in the Specialist – Junior Emma Garrett has been dynamite for Southeast six meets into the season, posting top-three finishes on both vault and floor in the Redhawks' first three meets. In 12 routines this season, Garrett has posted nine scores of 9.700 or higher. In the last dual at Illinois State, the Jacksonville, Fla., native scored 9.750 on both vault and floor. Her six scores of 9.700 or better ties Megan Fosnow for most among all Southeast gymnasts and her 28 career routines of such scores ranks second among all active Redhawks. Garrett earned her first career MIC Specialist of the Week award on Feb. 15, after she tallied a 9.825 on floor and a 9.700 on vault in the Perfect 10 Challenge.

All-Around Success – Megan Fosnow appears to be hitting her stride for the Redhawks in the all-around. In her third week competing in all four events, Fosnow posted her two top scores of her collegiate career. Peaking at a 38.525 against UIC last Friday before tallying a 38.300 at Iowa State on Monday. She was particularly solid against the Flames, scoring season-highs of 9.800 on vault and 9.775 on bars.

'Taylor'-Made Gymnast – After a slow start to the season, junior Taylor Westrick displayed the form that earned her an individual spot in the NCAA Regional Championships a year ago. The junior has posted four scores of 9.700 or better in the last three meets after doing so only once in the first three duals of the year. Westrick has been particularly strong on beam, where she has gone 9.800 or better in three-straight competitions.
