MURRAY, Ky. –
Erica Burgess' three-point play snapped a 60-60 tie with under a minute remaining to send the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team to a 63-62 loss at the CFSB Center on Saturday night.

The Racers' (11-14, 7-5 Ohio Valley) leading scorer scored through traffic and rattled in the ensuing free throw to make it a 63-60 contest with 52 seconds left on the clock. Burgess finished with a game-high 23 points. The Redhawks (6-19, 3-9 OVC) responded with a Bailie Roberts jumper after the junior jumped on a loose ball on the floor, cutting it to 63-62 with 37 seconds on the clock.

“We had a lot of opportunities to win this game,” Southeast head coach Ty Margenthaler said. “We did a great job coming back after we fell behind in the second half, but we were flat for portions of the game early. We have to learn to win games on the road because we have a lot of road games coming up.”

Southeast got a stop on a long three-pointer, but the ball stayed in the air for an extra few seconds, which left the Redhawks with just a desperation shot from half court that fell wide as time expired to give the Racers the one-point win.

Southeast got off to a strong start, opening an 8-2 lead early on. Bianca Beck opened by nailing a midrange jumper while Brittany Harriel's three-pointer made it 5-2. Beck made a free throw and Courtney Shiffer scored on a put back to cap the opening surge.

The Redhawks extended their lead to 13-5 after Allyson Bradshaw connected from long range and Harriel drained two free throws. From there, the Racers countered with an 11-2 run to grab a 16-15 lead, a surge that was capped by a Mariah Robinson basket at the 6:59 mark.

Bradshaw put Southeast back in front with another three-pointer, keying a 15-5 run that put the Redhawks up 30-21 in the waning seconds of the first half. Bradshaw's triple was followed by a three-point play by Harriel to make it 21-17. A Shiffer free throw was followed by another trifecta from Bradshaw hit another trifecta to make it 25-20. Roberts made a layup and Karley Evans connected on a three-pointer to cap the run with 17 seconds remaining. MSU's Erica Burgess got to the basket for a layup to end the Racers' drought, but the Redhawks took a 30-23 lead into the locker room at the half.

Harriel made a jumper on Southeast's first possession of the second half to make it 32-23, but MSU got a three-pointer from Kayla Lowe and a basket from Burgess to pull within four points at 32-28.

Harriel hit another jumper to up the Redhawks' lead back to six, but the Racers kept on coming and eventually got the deficit down to 39-37 on a Tessa Elkins three-pointer with less than 14 minutes left. Two technical free throws by Mallory Schwab evened the score with 13:12 remaining and Burgess drilled a three-pointer to make it a five-point possession, putting the Racers up 42-39 with under 13 minutes to play.

Roberts drilled a jumper on Southeast's next possession, but MSU followed with a Lowe three-pointer to make it 45-41 in favor of MSU, its largest lead of the game to that point. The Racers took full advantage of two-straight Redhawk turnovers, scoring in transition each time to make it 49-41 with 10:53 left. MSU got another basket from Burgess to make it a 10-point lead on the next possession.

The Redhawks responded with eight-consecutive points to get within 51-49 with under eight minutes to play. Shiffer scored in traffic to get it started while Roberts scored four in a row on two free throws and a jumper before Harriel made a layup to make it a one score game.

Bradshaw's three-pointer made it an 11-0 run and put Southeast back ahead, 52-51. However, Kyra Watson converted a three-point play to put MSU back on top by a 54-52 count.

The Racers got the lead up to 59-55, but Roberts nailed a baseline jumper and Beck got to the basket and made a contested layup, putting the score even at 59 apiece going into the final media timeout.

Burgess split two free throws to put the Racers back ahead, but Evans split two free throws to make the score 60-60, setting up the dramatic final moments.

Harriel posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Roberts tallied 14 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Bradshaw made 4-of-6 three-pointers off the bench to finish with 12 points of her own.
