Quick Hits
About Missouri – The Tigers have dropped their past two contests after starting the season 4-0. Mizzou heavily favors the three-point shot as nearly 45 percent of its attempts (150 of 334 attempts) have come from beyond the arc. Sydney Crafton (11.8 points per game), Liana Doty (10.2) and Bri Kulas (10.2) are all scoring in double figures. The Tigers' offense has stalled in their last three games, however, averaging 45.3 points per game during their run through the Cancun Challenge last week. In its first three games, all of which came at home, MU averaged 75 points per game and won every game by nine points or more. Defensively, the Tigers have held their opponent under 60 points five times and not given up more than 61 points in a game all season.
Last Meeting – Missouri opened up with a 29-2 run and never looked back in a 60-31 win over Southeast on Dec. 29, 2008. The Redhawks shot 18 percent from the field and no player scored more than five points.
With a win, Southeast would…
•Improve to 4-3 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
•Win consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 4-7, 2010.
•Surpass its road win total (1) from last season.
•Defeat Missouri for the first time since Nov. 24, 1998 (90-71).
•Improve to 2-16 all-time against current SEC teams.
What a Difference a Year Makes – The Redhawks have made big strides under second-year head coach
Ty Margenthaler. Through six non-conference games, Southeast sits with a 3-3 record. At this time last year, the Redhawks were 0-6. Even more impressive is the fact that the Redhawks have gotten off to this start while playing only one home game, their season-opening victory over Wright State on Nov. 9.
Harriel Out – Southeast did not get out of Houston entirely unscathed. Senior forward
Brittany Harriel injured her non-shooting hand during the Redhawks' Nov. 23 game against the Cougars. She is expected to miss 4-5 weeks with a target return date of Southeast's Ohio Valley Conference opener at Belmont on Dec. 31. Harriel scored in double figures in the Redhawks' first four games of the season and averaged 10.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game prior to her injury. She led Southeast with 10.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season.
'Hunting' for Wins – Junior point guard
Jordan Hunter is becoming a crunch time weapon for Southeast. Hunter scored the game-winning basket on the Redhawks' final possession in their last two victories. On Nov. 19, Hunter drove to the hoop for a layup with four seconds on the clock to give Southeast a 52-51 win at Arkansas State. The Papakura, New Zealand native came through down the stretch again on Nov. 24, when her bucket with six seconds left provided the winning points of a 55-54 victory over Texas-Pan American at the David Jones Classic.
Strong Defense – Southeast's improved offensive attack hasn't come at the cost of its defense. The Redhawks rank third in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring defense at 61.5 points against per game. Southeast is holding teams to 37.1 percent shooting from the field, which is also the third best mark in the OVC and only a tenth of a percentage point behind second. Southeast's defense has been particularly strong the last three games, holding opponents to 55.3 points per game in that stretch.
