Ames, Iowa - Southeast Missouri State junior Miles Smith tied for first in the 200-meters at the ISU Classic at Iowa State University with a new school record time of 21.21. He was fifth in the 400-meters while posting the fifth fastest time by a collegian this season, 46.67.
Smith, who was honored by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Springfield on Sunday, has provisionally qualified for the NCAA indoor finals in both the 200 and 400-meters.
"Miles had a real good meet," Haines told the Southeast Misosurian. "The field in the 400 had some of the top collegiate [runners] in the U.S. plus four or five professionals. It was really an outstanding field. The winning time of 46.20 was the top mark in the world this year."
In the 4 X 400-meter relay, Southeast finished eighth with a time of 3:10.89, less than a half-second off the provisional time. Freshman triple jumper Bilal Hameed was ninth with a jump of 49 feet, 2 1/4 inches.
In the women's weight throw, Redhawks senior Heather Jenkins came in 10th with a throw of 58 feet, 11 1/4 inches.
