Lorenz C. "Red" Williams was SEMO's first full-time athletic trainer. Williams worked in that position for 16 years supporting nine men and women's athletic teams. He mentored and supervised 63 athletic training students during his tenure and was awarded National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) honors for both 20 years and 25 years of service. Williams was inducted into the Missouri Sports and Missouri Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer Halls of Fame. He hosted the first Cramer Student Clinic at SEMO and was a speaker for numerous coaching and injury clinics in the Southeast MIssouri area. Williams was a Charter member of the State High School Activity Association Sports Medicine Committee and served as a consultant to area high schools on athletic injuries. He initiated an extensive rehabilitative program for faculty and students at SEMO following his own illnesses, which led to his retirement from his full-time position as athletic trainer. Williams was a Physical Education Instructor during his career at SEMO, as well.
