Southeast Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame
1958-1968
Hamby, after a four-year duty in the U.S. Air Force, accepted the assistant coaching position at Southeast under then-head coach Kenneth Knox. Hamby's ability to teach both offensive and defensive line play was special. His motivational coaching built a foundation of blocking and tackling for Southeast teams over an entire decade. Southeast fielded MIAA Championship teams in 1958, 1959, 1962 and 1967 with Hamby as an assistant coach. Hamby's aggressive style on the practice field left little doubt in the minds of his players as to what needed to be accomplished. He coached three players that were drafted in the NFL, including Frank Czaphla (Cleveland Browns), Glenn Schott (Denver Broncos) and Ken Iman (Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams). Hamby passed away on Nov. 8, 1986.
