Gerald Jones was captain of the SEMO track & field team in 1961 and was a three-year letterman. He was honored as an outstanding track athlete and was the team's highest point scorer in 1961. Jones set the school record for the mile with a time of 4:20.3. He garnered four varsity letters in cross country and was captain each of his final two seasons. Jones broke a total of 28 records between track and cross country his senior year alone. That total included MIAA, school, course and stadium records.
