1903-1907
Hawkins played running back at Southeast and was a team captain in 1907. He was a fast, hard tackler, and, as a ball carrier, used his brawn to bowl 'em over. Hawkins played tackle at St. Louis University after leaving Southeast. Glenn "Pop" Warner (famous coach and inventor of a single wing formation) called Hawkins the "greatest tackle he had ever seen."
