2001-2005
Derek Winans was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman-of-the-Year during his first season with the Redhawks in 2001-02. Winans garnered Third-Team All-OVC honors in back-to-back seasons (2001-02, 2002-03) and was a First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2005. He was a four-time OVC Newcomer of the Week during his outstanding rookie campaign. Winans ranks fifth all-time in scoring (1,505), third in career field goals attempted (1,172), third in career field goals made (524), second in career 3-point field goals made (219), second in career 3-point field goals attempted (564), eighth in career 3-point field goal percentage (.388), ninth in career assists (282) and tied for second in career steals (153). He held the school's all-time career record in 3-point field goals made for eight years. Winans also held the school record in games started until the 2013-14 season. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Apr. 26, 2014.
