CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Head Coach
Julie Yankus recorded her 200
th victory as a head coach on Saturday as Southeast Missouri (13-4, 5-1 OVC) completed the series sweep of UT Martin (4-13, 2-5 OVC) by a final score of 3-0 to sweep the Skyhawks for the second straight match.
In her 13 years as SEMO's head coach, Coach Yankus has taken her teams to 11-out-of-12 seasons. During that time, she has mentored 22 All-OVC selections, two OVC All-Newcomer Team selections, and nine all-OVC Tournament Team Honorees.
The Redhawks have secured three OVC titles in the last three seasons including the regular season and tournament titles in 2021.
Marisa Guisti led the Redhawks attack with 12 total kills on 18 attempts for a season-high .667 attack percentage. Guisti did not record an attack error in the contest and was selected as the player of the game for her efforts.
SEMO won the match 25-20, 25-17, & 25-23 to pick up their fourth sweep of the OVC season in front of 200 people inside Houck Field House on Saturday afternoon.
As a team, SEMO finished with a .254 hitting-percentage thanks in large part to setter
Izzy Lukens dishing out 35 assists on 82 total attempts (.427). Lukens finished with a pair of kills in the match as well.
Libero
Tara Beilsmith, approaching the OVC career record in digs, finished with 18 digs on the afternoon and is now just 20 away from the record (2,662).
Freshman
Lucy Arndt was all over the stat sheet in the contest, finishing with 11 kills, 13 digs, and a pair of solo blocks. Arndt registered a .219 hitting-percentage over the three-set match.
As a team, SEMO finished with seven blocks, led by Arndt with two solo blocks and a block assist. Graduate student middle blocker
Talia Gouard finished with four block assists to lead the Redhawks in the category.
UTM was led offensively by Kayla Bryant. Bryant finished with 12 kills and a .192 hitting-percentage as the Skyhawks hit just .110 as a team.
SEMO volleyball will hit the road next weekend, Oct. 13-14, when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Tennessee State. First serve Friday night is set for 6 p.m., CT. in the Music City.
